Evangelistria Monastery

A group of Kollyvades monks founded the Evangelistria Monastery in 1794. The Monastery can be reached by hiking from Skiathos Town or driving up. The Monastery is located on a hill, surrounded by pine forests.

It has had a long history. One of the most interesting facts is that the first Greek Flag was woven at Evangelistria Monastery. We were most drawn to the adorable cats when we visited the Monastery.

Skiathos Old Town

Skiathos is the capital of the Island and has all the amenities you could want. Enjoy a wander through the back streets and stairways, and stop by the harborfront for a glass of sparkling wine.

There are many shops, boutiques, and places to relax and soak up the island vibes.

The Church of Agios Nikolaos

The Agios Nikolaos, church, and clock tower offer one of the most spectacular views in Skiathos. It is located on a hill overlooking Skiathos City and offers stunning views of the old town, Skiathos, Bourtzi Peninsula, which divides the Old Ports and New Ports.

The icon of Panagia Kounistra is the protector of Skiathos and can be found in the Church of the Three Bishops. It was built in 1846 and featured a tall clock tower.

Walking through the Old Town, I came across the Windmill Restaurant, the best place to eat at Skiathos. It is high above the old city and offers stunning views of Skiathos. It is the oldest building on Skiathos and dates back to 1880. Take a sunset dinner with a view of The Aegean Sea.

The Papadiamantis House Museum is a must-see museum for anyone visiting Skiathos. It is the home of Alexandros Papadiamantis, a Greek novelist widely regarded as the father of modern Greek literature. It featured books, photographs, and paintings that depicted the author’s life, as well as his work.
