Santorini is famous for its whitewashed villages that cling to the high seacliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea. There are many other places to explore in Santorini. This beautiful Greek island is worth a more extended visit than a Mediterranean cruise. There are so many things to do.
Do you long to visit Santorini? This is the perfect time to go! Santorini is a place that has been plagued by over-tourism, but there are still restrictions. It might be quiet until then.
The Best Places to Visit in Santorini
Many people will argue that Santorini can be too touristy or crowded. We will tell you why Santorini should be your first stop on your trip to Greece. This is how we spent eight beautiful days in Santorini. Instead of waiting for the three-hour cruise ship tour, book a week at the most beautiful stop on the Greek Islands. It is only a half-hour flight from Athens, but it’s a world away.
Oia
Oia is the most picturesque village in Santorini. Oia is the perfect example of what you should think of when visiting Santorini. It has whitewashed houses and blue doors. You don’t have to visit Oia just for the day. Stay overnight to enjoy the stunning views and the streets. Oia Castle, Oia Windmills, and Blue Domed Churches of Oia are must-sees in Oia.
It would help if you hiked from Fira and Oia, stopping in Oia for coffee or wine. This is an excellent way for you to spend your day. You can also take a bus or taxi back. The Andronis Luxury Cave hotel and suites is a great place to stay in Oia. From its infinity pool, you can get a postcard-perfect view of the caldera.
Fira (Thira).
Fira, the Capital of Santorini, is where all cruise ships arrive. Although the village is quite busy, it is well worth the visit. It is worth walking even part of the path from Fira, Oia. This allows you to escape the crowds and offers different views of the caldera and local life. This beautiful stroll will take you along the scenic cliff path, passing through whitewashed villages.
Take the cable car to Fira. Once, people had to climb up to Fira (or ride donkeys from it), but the cable car makes it much more convenient and provides stunning views while relaxing in comfort.

Imerovigli
Imerovigli is one of the most beautiful places to stay in Santorini. It is located between Fira & Oia. Although it is not as crowded, it is equally as beautiful. The stunning sunsets over the caldera are also possible, with the gorgeous whitewashed houses and blue domes. Enjoy fresh yogurt and a beautiful sunrise from your balcony while you stay at the Iconic Santorini.
Oia Castle
Oia Castle is the best spot to see Santorini’s sunset. Although it can be crowded, it is well worth the effort. When you are watching sunsets in Oia, make sure to stay until the end of the blue hour. It will be incredible to see how many people leave the evening in Oia while it is still setting. You’ll find it more beautiful each day and have the entire area to yourself as the crowd vanishes.
Three Oia domes are the most well-known sites in Santorini. These are harder to find than they appear, so check out our photography guide for Santorini.
Blue Domes of Santorini
The blue domes are undoubtedly one of Santorini’s most famous landmarks. These three blue-domed churches, located in Oia, are one of the most photographed sights of Santorini. Finding them is challenging. You can find them in a difficult-to-find place.
Perissa Beach
Perissa Beach is the most visited beach in Santorini. Perissa Beach is a 6km long black volcanic sand beach. It’s located between Perivolos and Perissa. Stayed nearby for two nights in Santorini. We loved spending the morning on Black Beach, sipping cappuccinos under our umbrellas.
