The Best Things to Do in Monterey, California

After spending a few days in Monterey, we began a road trip along the Pacific Coast through Big Sur. Download this self-guided tour through Big Sur to make the most of your journey. This is one of the best drives in California. For more information, visit SeeMonterey.

Kayaking Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Our favorite thing in Monterey is to get out on our kayaks and explore Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. One of the unique experiences is seeing the coast from the sea. It is the unique experience of getting close to marine life, such as endangered sea lions and sea otters. Although the sea otters were almost extinct once they became endangered, thanks to the efforts of Monterey Bay Aquarium, these cute little creatures now thrive. They can now be seen relaxing in the bay from kelp forests floating above them.

Breakwater Cove & the Coast Guard Pier

If you don’t want to kayak but still want to see the marine life of Monterey, then make your way to Breakwater Cove or the Coast Guard Pier. There are hundreds upon hundreds of sea lions basking in the sun. It would only be possible to visit Monterey by seeing the abundant marine life. Monterey’s top attraction is the sea lions. You can’t leave without seeing them. They live on the rocks and enjoy relaxing in the water. It’s a great way to feel uplifted in Monterey.

Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey, Ca

Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the most popular places to visit in Monterey. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is located in an old sardine canning plant. It has interactive displays and an open-air exhibit showcasing hundreds of marine species. Although I wouldn’t say I like aquariums, I admire the Monterey Bay Aquarium for its efforts to conserve ocean wildlife offshore. It has been instrumental in bringing back the Southern sea Otters and helping to ensure the survival and conservation of bluefin tuna and sharks by focusing on their ecology and population biology.

Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary

The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is just a short drive from San Francisco. It’s not only one of the most beautiful places in Monterey but also in California. This is a must-see place in California. It has tide pools, sea kelp forests, and a wealth of marine life. A whale-watching tour is the best way to see the stunning scenery and marine life of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Cannery Row

Monterey was once the sardine capital of the world, with a canning and fish factory dominating the waterfront. The historic Cannery Row district is filled with restaurants and shops, making it one of the top places to visit in Monterey. John Steinbeck made this street famous with his 1945 novel Cannery Row, which depicted life in Monterey during World War II. The Old Fisherman’s Grotto has clam chowder. This is the 16th consecutive year that Monterey County’s Best Clam Chowder has been voted for.
